The devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake on April 25th affected 8.1 million people and has left 1.4 million in need of food assistance.
The devastating earthquake that struck Nepal demolished ancient cultural sites, wiped entire towns off the map, cut off access to many remote villages and killed more than 8,000 people.
The damage to the country’s educational system, from primary through university level, was also severe and has alarming long-term consequences.
There are more than 16,000 public and private schools – about half of the country’s total – have been damaged. More than 5000 schools were in the earthquake, putting the education of hundreds of thousands of children at risk.
