Anyone in school (university) training to become a teacher one day, must be able to operate a firearm and use it properly in a class room setting to defend students of the facility they teach in.
During a lockdown (commonly performed by all schools) the teacher would defend the classroom with confidence there are more combat teachers waiting for law enforcement, which should flush out any gun men.
