In approximately 1758 the word Yankee was first used to derogatorily describe all of what would be future Americans by General James Wolfe. There have also been reports that it has derived from the Cherokee word "eankkee" meaning "coward". It was then adopted during the Civil War as a pejorative term to describe people who were from what was historically the North. Used throughout history to degrade people who fought for America's freedom, and those who fought to unify the divided United States during the Civil War.
With that brief history in mind I would like our government to strongly encourage the changing of the New York Yankee franchise. It is demeaning to our history as a country and does not represent what America is about. Shall we let this social injustice continue? I'd hope not
