A chained CPI (COLA) for Social Security would cause economic harm to the elderly. Based on a chained CPI, when prices in one area go up, people are expected to decrease spending in that area and spend more in products which have dropped in price. Food, prescriptions, OTC medications, fuel and medical aids (walkers, wheelchairs, etc.) continue to increase in price. Where are the elderly to spend their money more wisely? COLA cuts would place the recipients of Social Security in a position of deciding whether they buy medicines or food. Too many already have to make these decisions. Don't allow Chained CPI increases in Social Security.
