Black History Month is no longer necessary, as was thought at the time of its inception, and remains morally harmful the longer Western society in general, and the United States in particular, continues to recognize it. All human beings are created equal. Therefore, we should all treat each other equally. Treating persons differently for arbitrary traits like skin color is not just. Black History Month does give special attention to Black persons simply because of their skin color. This sort of act is commonly known as racism. With a Black person as our current President, we do not think Black people face any disadvantage and so do not need a Black History Month to level any sort of playing field. As Morgan Freeman said, "Black history is American history." Abolish Black History Month.
