No longer recognize the institution of marriage in Government. Marriage was intended as a religious becoming of 2 people

Created by T.M. on January 02, 2013

We petition the United States Government to no longer recognize marriage for the purpose of government benefits or advantages. Marriage was intended to be a religous ceremony that joins 2 people in the presence of god. The reason divorce rates are so high is because people do not marry for religion anymore. They marry to file taxes together and to be recognized by their government as a couple. Gay couples want this right to be married so they too can reap the added benefits our government allows. If marriage was returned to is religious origins, divorce rates would go down and there would be no arguements over why gays could or could not get married. It would be the decision of the church performing the ceremony.
