Stand with rural Oregon to oppose a national monument in Malheur County without a vote of Congress.
The proposed monument is 2.5 million acres, bigger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island – combined. It would add restrictions to land already protected by more than 10 federal acts and laws.
A Malheur County monument would also put the future of the region’s economy and the entire community at risk. It would dramatically restrict access to public lands to benefit the economy, the environment and wildlife. Malheur County ranks fourth among all Oregon counties in farm and ranch sales, and it is Oregon’s No. 1 cattle producing county. Local families are also the first responders when a wildfire strikes, and they are out removing invasive plants and improving wildlife habitat.
