The Life Time Salaries for elected officials rule, I am not sure when this became the norm, but it is not the best way to spend tax dollars in an economy that is paper thin and fragile.
We need to have a flat pay rate structure for all elected officials and for all of congress that is comparable to what the average American is currently earning for entry level. (12.00 per hour)
Once you are no longer employed or hold office, then you should no longer get paid for that job, or receive benefits that are normal and customary for that job.
Congress should not be allowed to vote on their own raises. This should be put to vote, so that the people can determine if a raise is appropriate.
