Instead of an outright ban that would deprive the people of their second amendment rights. Require anyone that is in possession of an "assault weapon" be required to also own an aproved gun safe. And that said weapon be secured in said safe at all times unless in physical possesion of registered owner. Also if weapon is to be transfered it must be transfered through licensed FFL holder to verify receiver of weapon is legally able to own and securely store such weapons
