The existing petition to reduce senator pay to reduce the deficit will make an insignificant impact on the national deficit. To reduce the deficit, we must incentivize the senators by giving them no pay until they balance the budget. If these men and women had sufficient funds to get elected, they will not be living on the streets without a few month's pay but it will most likely be a bit of a wake up call.
