I hear alot of talk about nominating Chuck Hagel for the SecDef position, but who wants a politician at the helm of DoD. What we really need at this crucial juncture is more of the smart leadership that already exists within the Department.
Dr. Ashton Carter, the current Deputy SecDef, has the experience of working within the Department of Defense for many years, and has been a catalyst for institutional change since he took over as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics.
Dr. Carter has been extremely effective throughout his tenure in DoD and I feel (and I hope others) feel that putting him at the helm would spark the transformational change which is needed in order for DoD to meet tomorrow's challenges.
