So it is important that the person who leads this institution has strong knowledge of economics as well as the desire to use the Fed to address issues such as unemployment, poverty, an inequality. Joseph Stiglitz has a deep knowledge of monetary policy as well as a strong sense of social justice. He has spent much of his career studying optimal policy options that can lead to a more prosperous and stable economy.
