President Obama should nominate Paul Krugman to become the next Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
As Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Krugman would be well placed to make and/or influence fiscal and monetary policy that would reflect his pro-growth economic views.
Mr. Krugman has the right views at the right time in regards to the fiscal and monetary policy of the United States government and the United States Federal Reserve System. Mr. Krugman opposes value destroying fiscal austerity and monetary tightening in a time of zero bound interest rates, low inflation, and high underemployment. Mr. Krugman presently supports fiscal and monetary expansion when the economic net-benefits of both are substantial.
Regardless of his progressive views, he is a great pick for the job.
