The Science Laureates of the United States Act was put into place in 2013 to nominate a Science Laureate who would spend their term traveling around the country promoting science and research to students and the general public.
For a period of time the bill moved through the house and senate with bipartisan support. Suddenly Republican support for the bill evaporated after a lobbyist from the American Conservative Union (ACU) due to fear that they might talk about the overwhelming evidence from climate scientists around the world that the earth is warming due to human activity.
Lets not let extremist views derail the importance of having an advocate support the sciences and instill a sense of wonder and discovery in a new generation.
