After considering the idea that China could open North Korea's society, I asked myself why the US could not do the same with Cuba. If we really are about freedom, then we should open up Cuba. It is long past time to let the old hatreds go. The best way we can be good neighbors is to reunite families, to open and encourage trade, to stop the paranoia. I know that there are families that were hurt financially when Castro took power. There are powerful interests that do not want this to happen. We should bypass that in the best interests of both countries. This should include some future date to deed Guantanamo Bay back to the Cubans, if no new agreement can be reached.
