The US was fine with brutal dictator F.Batista and his links to organized crime, and e.g. other brutal dictators in El Salvador. But when the considerably milder and more popular Castro took over, we cut off trade and visits, forcing him into Russia's arms, then stayed that way for an incredible 50+ years. This is an outrage that has hurt Cuba, Cubans, and the US, both politically and economically, hugely, and helped in no way. But sugar beet and high-fructose corn syrup industry fat cats that contribute $ to politicians like it, and the desires of 10 million for a better life evidently mean nothing by comparison.
