FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is moving to do restore Bush-era media consolidation rules by pushing through revised media consolidation rules without holding public hearings or vote. The Chicago Tribune reports Rupert Murdoch (under investigation in England for phone hacking, influence peddling and bribery) is eyeing purchase of the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, the major papers in the nation's second and third-largest cities, where Murdoch already owns several TV stations. A FREE PRESS that provides healthy independent and critical journalism is essential to a healthy democracy. Write Congressmen, FCC Chair & Pres.
