America is seeing a shocking growth in mass murders. Naturally these are major news stories, but why should we make these people who commit these atrocities famous? Granted most aren't for the sake of infamy, but some are at least in part driven by the desire for fame (for example, the "Joker" at the Aurora theater). Not giving the names of the murderers to the media in no way inhibits the media's first amendment rights, and will hopefully lead to a safer nation, with more freedom from these sociopathic people who will do anything for their fifteen minutes of fame.
All of our major sports leagues are doing this; they know that if they show people running onto the field during a game, more people will continue doing that. If they are not giving these people fame, why are we?
