The U.S. government enjoys the benefits of having a monopoly in force, which they use to coerce individuals into paying them money, in other words, theft. There's little to no difference to getting robbed at gunpoint and the government's collection of taxes.
Voluntary taxes on the other hand would allow those who wish to keep paying taxes continue and those who do not can stop. Although if the payments were voluntary they would really no longer be called taxes.
