MLB Opening Day is NOTHING more than just the beginning of the season. Granted, it’s an American tradition. However, it does NOT deserve to be recognized as an American holiday. Just as the NFL, ANOTHER private corporation, has not been allowed a national holiday for the Super Bowl, a private corporation such as MLB should NOT be allowed a holiday for opening day. Allowing private corporations to manufacture holidays will lead to every product and special corporate event being put on the same level as Veteran's Day, Independence Day, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Should schoolchildren take a day off for Lobsterfest? Should Toyotathon be a postal holiday? We, the undersigned, say NO!!! Mr. President, we, the undersigned, petition you to NOT make MLB Opening Day a National Holiday!
