Please do not discontinue the penny because of how important it is. The penny is an important part of our nation's history because it was the first federally minted coin. It was also a memory of Abraham Lincoln. Removing the penny would instead make the government lose even more money because nickels cost a lot to make. Removing the penny would also affect the market a lot. Prices would be rounded up to multiples of 5, causing prices to increase. Prices increase would also mean trouble to people who don't have that much money, which make up more than half of our nation's population. The quote that helped with parenting "A penny saved is a penny earned" would also disappear because of pennies going extinct if pennies were discontinued.
