Borrowers in public service jobs should not be penalized for consolidating debt. Erasing qualifying payments is a slap in the face for people already enrolled in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
We are already working low paying jobs in areas of high demand. PSLF takes to many payments to take effect and it really doesn't do much for educators who are in good standing. By the time it takes effect I would already have paid my debt because for some credit matters.
We need consolidation but with lower rates just like banks do. Use executive action to grant borrowers in good standing lower rates to bring down debt.
