Not give Police Officers the authority to turn off body cameras

Created by L.S. on November 08, 2014

Minneapolis Police officers have begun to wear body cameras to record interactions with the public. The policy for the body camera states that officers will have the option to turn the cameras off. If they do so, they must submit the reason in writing. As a citizen, who is associated with victims of police brutality giving the officer a choice to turn the camera off is wrong and will not help decrease crimes committed by police. This privilege will also make it difficult in determining if an officer was falsely accused of police brutality or any other crime. I believe the officers should not be given this privilege and if they are still granted this privilege then there should be some backup, course of action, taken to protect citizens during an interaction with a police officer.
