“When the President took office, he directed all of his policymakers to develop policies based on science and research, not ideology or politics.” Other dangerous drugs cannot be held to a double standard. Why should alcohol and tobacco be legal, while less dangerous drugs remain illegal?
Excessive alcohol use can lead to liver cirrhosis, stroke, various cancers, unintentional injuries, violence, impaired brain function and motor skills, alcoholism, damage to a developing fetus, coma, and death. Alcohol is attributed to an estimated 75,000 deaths yearly.
Tobacco use is extremely addictive, increases a smoker’s risk of lung cancer, emphysema, bronchitis, cardiovascular diseases, and causes an estimated 443,000 deaths annually (secondhand smoke included).
