The second amendment guarantees that the civilian's right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. These rights were granted, not for hunting or for sport, but so that the average citizen can defend themselves against a threat, whether it's foreign or domestic.
Stronger gun control legislation will serve no purpose, and continue to perpetuate crime rather than peace, as criminals will be the only ones with the weapons. We see this statistically in countries with strong gun control versus those with lenient gun control (UK vs Switzerland).
The backbone of a free society is the ability for the free people to maintain and defend their freedoms. We cannot entrust these freedoms to any party, but only to ourselves.
