To interfere in Syria's civil war would generate more hate towards the U.S.A from that region. Not to mention that aiding and arming the syrian "rebels" would empower these Muslim extremists to a point where even Israel would be threatened at some point. It would also be a repeat of the foreign policy that catapulted Al-Qaeda to power in Afghanistan. Assad's regime is nowhere near perfect but to replace him with a radical religious government would be taking a big step backwards in achieving stability in that region.
