The will of the American people is to stay out of conflicts in the Middle East. Intervening in Syria does not serve our interests abroad in any way at all. The Syrian people are in the midst of a civil war, let them decide who will remain in power and who will fall. Assad is almost certainly the lesser of two evils, and by aiding the rebels we would be arming terrorists, directly militarily aiding Al-Qaeda, and eventually assisting the rebels in ethnically cleansing the alawites.
