Unemployment is far higher in this country than represented by unemployment figures. The unemployment rate does not represent the people who have simply given up looking for a job. Many companies are outsourcing jobs overseas. This is especially the case in jobs like my dad’s in information technology. According to my dad, “Outsourced, offshore, remote jobs went from about 40 percent to about 80 percent from 2012 to 2015.” In Addition, they are using visa card holders to replace American citizens on positions that are required locally. I understand that outsourcing is cheaper, and businesses just care about making money, but the American middle class is suffering.
