Christopher Columbus was not as he was formally taught in school. He brutally murdered and enslaved the native populations of the Caribbean islands at which he landed. If you consider this man a national hero why not have Bin Laden day as well. He ONLY killed innocent citizens and not force them to work on plantations. Not only was he a horrible person he also was proven not to be the first person to sail to North America so not even that false claim can be justified as why he receives a Nationally Recognized Holiday.
I have other proofs as the wrongness of the holiday in general, but I am sadly running out of characters.
