The Obama administration is attempting to reduce military retirement on the basis that military service is comparable to other governmental employment. Military service is a reduction in the rights of the service member voluntarily for the greater good and a submission to UCMJ. Military service includes volunteering for dangerous missions and wartime service that has a significantly higher danger of death than civilian service. Military service is arduous, dangerous and requires frequent and long separations from family and home life. Military service includes major sacrifice of civil liberties, participation in combat, and the risk of serious disability and death. To compare this to governmental employment is insulting and ludicrous and should not be tolerated.
