In his budget negotiations, it has been reported that President Obama is willing to concede to eliminating cost-of-living supplements for senior citizens to avoid a fiscal cliff. This is unacceptable since: 1) recent presidents balanced their budgets by taking money already in the Social Security account and using it to balance their budgets with the promise of returning the money with interest, which never happened, and 2) seniors living off of only Social Security into which they invested as their retirement income have never benefited from the payroll tax cuts that people still working get. They only had a one-time supplement. Seniors are being sacrificed once again, even though they contributed to Social Security with the promise that it would be there for them when they retired.
