To a person, the families of the murdered forgave Dylann Storm Roof at his bond hearing. We understand this is a case where the death penalty would be warranted. We hurt as a people. But we shouldn't want that. That'll solve nothing. Killing Roof won't bring those nine souls back. Killing him will make no one feel better. Killing anyone goes against what those nine people stood for. Killing him is an insult to their memory.
Make sure the prosecutor listens to the families. If he's convicted, give him life. Those nine people didn't die for nothing and they wouldn't want him killed. Those people are what we should all aspire to be. Our administration is committed to fighting terrorism. This is terrorism. Let terrorists know forgiveness, love and mercy. They cannot win in the face of that.
