The CDC has confirmed that the Zika virus causes microcephaly in infants born to mothers who contracted the Zika virus while pregnant. If the U.S. Olympic team travels to Brazil, it runs the risk of contracting Zika and spreading it upon their return to the U.S. The Zika virus is a mosquito born illness and can also be spread as a sexually transmitted disease. Cases of the virus are currently limited to Latin America. The Olympic Games in Brazil could result in fast tracking the spread of the virus to every country in attendance. We implore the U.S. to take a stand and protect against the spread of the virus by not sending the U.S. team to compete in the games in Brazil.
