not side with broadcasters in Supreme Court Case of American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. v. Aereo, Inc

Created by D.H. on June 05, 2014

On April 22, the US Supreme Court heard arguments from American Broadcasters (NBC, ABC, CBS and PBS) and Aereo related to technology which allows consumers improved access to publicly transmitted tv broadcasts. Broadcasters argue that Aereo's service violates copyrights -- although this content is distributed freely over taxpayer-owned airwaves. Conversely, Aereo indicates that it only sells hardware solutions; and its service does not modify or remarket these broadcasts.

Rightfully, the Supreme Court will decide. However; the Obama Administration has previously indicated support for broadcasters in this issue; and in light of this case and potential conflicts of interest (PBS), this support might biased and/or prejudiced. Therefore, we ask that this position be publicly recanted.
