Not Sign the Magnitsky Bill into Law

Created by X.W. on November 27, 2012

We would like the Congress and the Obama Administration to consider its obligations to the World Trade Organization, Its commitment to fostering sound and sovereign economic ties to our trade partners, and to not use the Magnitsky Bill to circumvent any sovereign country's right to administer their fair and democratic legal system to their citizens, and even as it is evolving. This circumvents the sacred principle of self-determination. The Bills, HR 4405 and SB 1039 is intended to repeal the Jackson-Vanik act so to resume normal trade relations with Russia. We should not take the opportunity to extend policing powers with the Magnitsky Bill. In doing so we create unsound economic effects that puts a strait jacket on U.S. entrepreneurs. There are other avenues addressing human rights.
