Not tax the volunteers that work extremely hard at firehouses, EMS and the like.600.00 a year we pay taxes on a 1099!

Created by G.B. on March 14, 2014

The Internal Revenue Service does not recognize volunteers for their life saving things that we do, if we receive 600.00 pr more for reimbursement of our resources ( gas, food, uniforms etc) we have to fill out a 1099 form and a schedule c (self employment) form and pay a tax. We don't get paid for our services so why should we be taxed when this is for a reimbursement? It's not income. We do not benefit from this! Normally it cost us money to serve! We should get a tax break, not be hit with a self employment tax!
