Many states have enacted laws requiring waiting periods, sonograms, and a number of other restrictive statutes designed to prevent women from following through with their plans for abortion before the second trimester deadline. This petition aims to nullify those laws, and, in doing so, alleviate the psychological, physical, and financial costs associated with said laws. Personally, I was prevented from getting an abortion for three months due to the restrictive nature of Texas laws on abortion. As a woman suffering from PTSD due to rape, the vaginal sonogram law was particularly traumatizing. As a woman suffering from an eating disorder, the weight gain during those three months led to a relapse in my disease. It is time for the government to step in and uphold a woman's right to choose.
