Every year thousands of people in the care of the United States prison system experience a breach of human rights when they are a ripped out of their daily routine and kept in solitary confinement for the smallest breaches of prison regulations. Most prisoners go through this experience in a small space with no natural light and a solid door for 23 hours a day, limited to no contact with other human beings, inadequate medical and mental health care, and in some cases physical torture. If you thought regular criminals were terrifying imagine a criminal after being forced to sit in a perpetually lit with no company other then their own thoughts for sometimes years on end. The fact that this punishment exists and is so frequently used is quite frankly unacceptable.
