I think any politician should be forced to swearing to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help you God when becoming a candidate and be hold accountable to the same punishment as someone who testifies in front of a jury in a criminal case if they lie under oath. This way Voters who are the once compromising the national interest in an election, at least will have some assurance and stronger power over the information that each candidate presents as evidence of their qualifications to be President or when running for any political office. Stop the use of misleading information and subject candidates to use of true facts supported with documentation that will sustain their arguments.
