The purpose of designating November 6th as National Amnesty Day is to remind Americans that the greatest president in US history (Ronald Reagan) provided amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants, allowing a pathway to citizenship to the "shining city on the hill." The IRCA fulfilled the ideals engraved on the Statue of Liberty, that America was a land for the tired, poor, tempest-tossed, homeless, huddled masses yearning to breathe free. This is a Day to celebrate the very essence of what is to be American, that it isn't where we come from but where we are and where we're going. So, every November 6th let's remember that our immigrants are what make America great and let's win one for the Ol' Gipper.
