What's happening in Syria is awful. Obama's "red line" statement equates (more or less) to a moral commitment to US military intervention, something I believe he, and most US citizens, does not want.
Here's the (potential) way out: a referendum. Should the US consider any military intervention in Syria? (If no, he has his out. If yes, he can at least keep it on the table, knowing most Americans stand behind him.)
