Obtain Disability Services the same across all States

Created by D.H. on November 07, 2011

Services (respite, supported employment etc, in home family support) provided to families with Adults with Disabilities are currently determined by what State you live in. I have lived in Washington, Alabama and South Carolina. SC is the only state that I have lived in that you have to obtain a Waiver (waiting list) before you can get any services. I have lived in SC for 5 years, my son is 30 yrs old (mentally a 6 yr old) and there is no where for him to go while my husband & I work because we still do not have a waiver. Obviously - managing state funds differ from state to state. I would NEVER recommend anyone to move to SC if you have an adult with disabilities. You should be able to get the same services no matter what state you live in - since we are the UNITED STATES.
