The U.S. should make an open offer to the Syrian dictator, Bashar Al-Assad, that if Assad abdicates power and provides for the international community's participation in the creation of a democratic, representative Syrian government, then the U.S. will provide a safe place for Assad and his immediate family to live.
The U.S. offer:
- Should be public. This way if Assad rejects, the world will see him as the power-hungry dictator he is.
- Should provide a safe living environment for the Assads within the U.S. or in another consenting state. Safety could be provided through a combination of a secured living situation and anonymity.
In return, the Assads must peacefully turn over power to international forces to begin democratic restructuring.
This plan will save countless lives.
