For far too long the westboro baptist church, based in Topeka, Kansas, has spread a message of hate and intolerance, disguised as legitimate religion. Since 1991, they've participated in over 40,000 protests, including the funerals of fallen military, victims of tragedies from all across our country, and, most recently, announced plans to picket the funerals of the victims of the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 people lost their lives.
The goal of this petition is to ask Barack Obama to offer a personal response to these protests, as well as a response to the issue of the Westboro Baptist Church still being protected and offered tax exempt status by the United states government, which amounts to nothing more than the government funded spread of hatred.
