Offer military commissions to Licensed Professional Counselors for clinical mental health.

Created by T.S. on March 16, 2015

Licensed Professional Counselors should be able to attain military commissions like clinical social workers and psychologists.

Mental health is a growing concern among the military and veteran population. As commissioned officers, psychologists and clinical social workers are able to provide many of the services that military members and their families require, but Licensed Professional Counselors are completely unrepresented in the active duty component. Currently, all 50 states have licensure requirements for professional counselors, and by allowing already licensed counselors to become commissioned officers, the military would be able to better serve its members in a way that is cost-effective for both the DoD and would-be military counselors.
