offer Neil Armstrong's family the option of a state funeral to honor his personal and symbolic national significance.

Created by J.A. on August 27, 2012

We propose that the President (if he has not done so already), offer Neil Armstrong's family the option of a state funeral. It is well documented that Mr. Armstrong lived a life of modesty and the final decision should be left to his heirs. However, the people should have the opportunity to laud Mr. Armstrong's personal and symbolic contribution to the nation and mankind. While thousands helped to make the moon landing happen and millions have been inspired, a national tribute to the man who took the first step is a fitting legacy to bookend his service as the figurehead of such a seminal accomplishment. Few steps in our storied history rival the wonderment this rare combination of science and humanity produced. The reverberations are still felt as we look to the Moon and now Mars.
