James Franco, actor and movie star, recently expanded his repertoire as an “artist” by recreating the iconic work of Cindy Sherman, currently on display at the Pace Gallery in NYC. Art critic for the New York Times, Roberta Smith, in her scathing review of Franco’s work notes: “It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for him, while also wishing that someone or something would make him stop.” Well, now is our chance! This petition simply states that the United States Government trade James Franco to China for the dissident artist and activist Ai Weiwei. China will gain a self-made “celebrity artist”, the United States will gain a world-renowned artist of conscience. Since it seems an unfair trade, we could throw in fellow celebrity artists Sylvester Stallone, Courtney Love and Yakov Smirnoff.
