The ongoing debate on whether we should be teaching creationism alongside evolutionary theory in science classes is problematic for three reasons:
1) Creationism isn't scientific.
2) It does nothing to satisfy those who believe that creationism deserves a voice in public schooling.
3) It fails to consider different religious ideas and traditions that are just as valid as any other.
With all that said, public schools are not churches, nor are they synagogues, mosques, or temples. They are institutions of learning, so let's offer World Religions as an elective to public high school students. This gives teachers and students an exclusive platform to discuss a wealth of religious ideologies, understand different cultures, and celebrate our nation's rich diversity.
