A public school teacher, as a single parent of 2, earns a salary that is just enough to be over the poverty line, (therefore ineligible for any public assistance,) yet once insurance and taxes are taken out, it is barely a living wage. These are the people that are raising our children. They work at home, nights and weekends. They deserve better salaries. A yearly tax bonus or additional income tax cuts for teachers would be a small step toward giving these public servants the wages they are worth.
