Believing in a religion does not mean you negate “operational science”. Many religious people around the world use operational science to advance technology by using examination and investigation. The real controversy is centered on “historical science”. Historical science is used to determine the past, based on what we can observe in the present. Scientists can only study the present, physical world, and make assumptions about how an event occurred in the past. Ultimately, evolution must have an explanation about the origins of life because, “any conclusions about things that are not testable in the present must be based on improvable assumptions about the untestable past” (Mitchell & White, 2010).
